DAVID, BUSINESS CONSULTANT
David and his wife Sally have been married for 21 years and have two great kids: Sofia, 13, and Miles, 11. After years of working for bigger companies, the couple decided to strike out on their own; David as a freelance consultant, Sally as principle and owner of a brand design agency. Their first job? Finding insurance coverage for their family. It was a daunting task.
“We quickly learned that the coverage was very expensive, very minimal, and very frustrating,” said David. “There was a lot of red tape and fine print to weed through.”
Though they finally landed on a plan they could afford, it still doesn’t meet the health care needs of the family. There are life-threatening food allergies to consider, braces down the road, medications and tests that need to be paid for. They’d like to pursue new allergy therapies or consult with specialists, but those aren’t covered anymore. As a father, it weighs heavily on David.
“If something catastrophic happens, I don’t want to wonder if I’m going to lose my house or something even more precious,” he explained.
David and Sally say they’re eager for the changes Cover Oregon will bring. “To have access to quality coverage and more options – that knowledge right there is peace of mind.”
